sebastianSextet for 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass and piano was written in 1974 and it was one of the most important pieces by Boris Papandopulo in chamber music. This extensive piece in five movements is a fine example of openness of Papandopulo to different style and folk influences and their masterly interpolation in its own world of sound. An introductory Interlude brings distinctive sound of seaside folk, lyrical Meditations invoke sevdah music from Bosnia and Popevka brings the atmosphere from Međimurje. In contrast to this, the Scherzo flirts with dodecaphony, and in The Closing dialogue motor burlesque in the Baroque spirit shows extreme technical mastery and the imagination of the composers. This is the first recording of this work and was recorded in cooperation with the Sebastian Quartet and double bassist Nikša Bobetko. (CROATIA RECORDS, 2003).

zf-papandopuloThe Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Boris Papandopulo (1906-1991) ,who worked as a conductor and composer for 60 years, with two performances of Shostakovich capital works: the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra and the Third concerto for piano and orchestra. At the initiative of then chief conductor Vjekoslav Šutej, both concerts were recorded and published on this CD that won Porin music award for best CD of classical music. Concerto for piano and orchestra was performed at the first Biennial Music in 1961 and since then the score has disapeared. After nearly half a century the concert was held in 2006 again, thanks to the reconstruction of scores derived from the conserved parts. The concert is a real parade of dance beats that is especially effective in the third movement where Papandopulo stirs up a real fireworks of jazz with brilliant instrumentation of contagious rhythm. (Aquarius Records, 2007).

cd-virutuozThe CD with the novel «Virtuosos, muses and the striptease» was created as a sound template for the novel and the compositions are discussed in the book. In addition to Beethoven’s Sonata in C sharp minor, Op. 27 / 2 called the Lunar sonata, the CD offers Liszt ‘Nocturne no. 3 from Love dreams and Papandopulo’s piece Zdenka’s striptease. It truly is unique, just synesthetic experience of reading a novel and listening to music that seems to spring from its pages because it opens new dimensions of understanding and experiencing the beautiful literature and the music itself. The fact that the author of the novel is also a pianist who performs music is unique and it guarantees the supreme pleasure.
