The Pianist

foto-pijanist-3The name of Dalibor Cikojević, the pianist, is inevitably linked with the name of Croatian composer Boris Papandopulo, whose works have represented the framework of his artistic activities in the past decade.  After the performance with Sebastian Quartet, it has been recorded on compact disc containing Papandopulo’s «Sextet for string quartet, double bass and piano», while the recital with his anthological «Piano pieces» performed at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and the Croatian Music Institute in Zagreb, won him a prestigious professional award «Milka Trnina». This was followed by a concert tour with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra conducting Pavle Dešpalj where Dalibor Cikojević interpreted Papandopulo’s «Third concerto for piano and orchestra». This composition was recorded on the CD that received Porin Award for best album of classical music of the 2008. Dalibor Cikojević presented Papandopulo’s music throughout  Croatia and in several European cities with an especially noteworthy performance in the Vienna Musikverein. Besides Papandopulo’s music, he also performed important pieces written by Croatian composers like Božidar Kunc («H minor Piano Concerto, Op. 22, Piano Quartet in D minor, and album «Young Leaves» for the young) and he also performed Passacaglia and «Fugue for Piano and Strings» by Pavle Dešpalj. In 2010 he was awarded the «Frank Dugan» award for the best recital held at the concerts in the Salon Očić and he also had several appearances with the Split National Theatre Orchestra under the baton of Harry Zlodre and with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Pavle Dešpalj where he performed  Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue in memory of Branko Sepčić. The latest compact disc  was released as a musical theme with his novel «Virtuosos, muses and striptease» and it includes pieces by Beethoven, Liszt and Papandopulo.
